Yesterday we loaded up the truck (with kids, lol) and headed out to Dave's dad's farm! Our mission: find good stuff to help me build my tiki hut. Mission Accomplished!! We found some great things....not positive if I'll use all of it, but its nice to have options. We enjoyed the beautiful weather, the boys got really dirty, Luke had fun watching daddy tear things up...lol, and I enjoyed watching my guys be guys ;) We are supposed to be getting a "blizzard" tomorrow, so we plan on spending a good part of the day in the garage setting up our new table saw. Maybe a few lessons from the hubby on how to use it too...hahaha. Things are looking good! Oh!...also been looking for things to go with the gazebo. Found a plant called bougainvillea that is gorgeous! Think I'll be ordering a lot of that ( in red!) to hang all over the gazebo. Supposedly it does great in direct sun and high heat, which sounds perfect for our summers here :) And thankfully Dave and I have very similar taste in style as far as the patio furniture is concerned, so we've had fun looking at that. Although that will be one of the last things we buy to complete our projects :) Ok, enough of my ramblings tonight...Dave is on the Wii playing Call Of Duty...gonna go watch!

first thing's first
So, I spent several hours yesterday drawing up the plans for the tiki bar. Not as easy as I thought it would be!! Especially for someone who HATES math. But, I finally finished. I know I said no man help, but I did have to break down and ask Dave to look at the plans. I just wanted to make sure that what I'd come up with would actually work. I said " I don't want advice or ideas, just tell me yes it will work, or no it wont". LOL! Luckily he said yes. Tonight he went and bought us a new table saw!! I'm very excited, and anxious for him to teach me how to use the thing...hehehehe. He also surprised me with a little gift; 2 of my very own contractor pencils! Ha! He carries them with him everyday at work, and I always get onto him for leaving them in his back pocket when I wash jeans. Now I get my very own. He's so sweet, and I'm glad I married someone with such a great sense of humor. Anyways, slowly but surely things are coming along. Next step...road trip out to the farm to see what goodies I can scrounge up to build this thing. The less things I have to buy the better!!

My first Blog!!
Wow~ is this weird, I'm almost nervous about my very first blog?! LOL....it's exciting! I feel like maybe I should call my mom or something! Anyways, the purpose of this blog is to document my lastest adventure/project. Not really for others to see it, (although it would be super exciting if anyone wanted to follow!!), but more for my own enjoyment. So here it is.....I'm going to build a tiki bar for my backyard! ALL-BY-MYSELF! LOL! "Why???", you might ask. Well, let me tell you. I've really been wanting a big gazeebo in my backyard. We have a huge backyard, but its blah and so Dave and I never spend time out there. Our kids, along with the neighbor boys have turned it into a warzone....digging massive holes and building forts for several years now. The yard is sectioned into 2 parts by a fence with a gate. So my plan is to fix up the back half, so that us "grown ups" have a nice place to lounge....while the kids can have the front half to play in! We can sit and watch from our pretty, non-militant side. My AMAZING husband has decided that for my birthday he is goig to build me a gazeebo! I am sooooo stoked! Now I'm thinking of all kinds of wonderful ideas to go along with the gazeebo. Thus, I came up with the idea of a TIKI BAR!! I am going to do it all alone, no man help at all...lol. ( ok, maybe a secret phone call to dad once in a while if I need advice...lol) So, my birthday is in JULY...that gives us about 4 months for him to build a gazeebo and me to build a tiki bar. I will document it all on here. Wish me luck!! Hopefully in about 4 months you'll hear the sweet sounds of some Bob Marley and the buzz of a blender coming from my backyard. "hmmmm....is that salt and lime I smell??"
